Peer Support
Someone who speaks the same language as you!!
It is very common for people diagnosed with a disorder not to recognize their crisis process and to blame both their family and doctors for their condition. They become resistant to treatment as they do not feel understood and, in general, their experiences are devalued.
“I know this because I felt it firsthand when I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 2018.”

Have someone to turn to
Peer Support occurs when people who have similar diagnoses and have already learned to deal with the challenges of this diagnosis, offer support
to those who have been recently diagnosed or are still in greater suffering.
The link that reduces conflict and suffering
Often, people diagnosed with a mental disorder see the base of the triangle as enemies rather than allies. Because they have already experienced the client's position, the Peer Support figure is naturally accepted with less resistance.
It's as if the client thinks: "Now, yes, someone who really understands me!"

Benefits
Peer Support is able to establish a unique connection with the client, as it does not occur from a paternalistic approach, as is the case with fathers, mothers or doctors. The client identifies the Peer as a pair. You can even imagine how much a natural birth hurts, or how much it hurts to lose your mother as a child, but you will never know exactly what it is like if you have not gone through that experience.
